Greece's cultural hightlights are definately among the ancient places you must visit at least once in your lifetime. Visit the Great Acropolis, the symbol of democracy and the famous oracle of Delphi.
DAY 1
Arrival into Athens airport. Meet at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to explore Plaka and have a typical Greek dinner! Overnight Athens.
DAY 2
Start our tour of Greece visiting the most important Ancient Sites! Drive to Corinth Canal (1 hour drive). Stop and visit. Then continue our drive to Mycenae (45 minutes drive) where you visit the Archaeological site, the Lion's Gate, the Citadel, the tomb of Agamemnon and the magnificent New Museum! Then on to Nafplion (30 minutes drive) for some lunch. In the afternoon drive to Epidaurus (30 minutes drive) to visit the unique theater known for its acoustics. Return to Nafplion for overnight.
DAY 3
Depart after breakfast to Olympia (3 hours drive), through the central Peloponnese area passing the cities of Megalopolis and Tripolis, arrive in Olympia to visit the archaeological site with the temple of Zeus, the temple of Hera, the Gymnasium, the Palaistra and the magnificent Old Olympic Stadium dating from the 4th century BC, still well preserved! Visit also of the New wonderful Museum housing some masterpieces of the sculpture such as the famous statue of Hermes by Praxitelis! Overnight in Olympia.
DAY 4
Depart after breakfast for Delphi (3hours and 30 minutes drive in total). Drive via Patras to Rion, cross the channel to Antirion on the brand new impressive bridge. Arrive in Nafpaktos, a small picturesque town, stop for photos. Then continue to Delphi to visit the impressive archaeological site with the temple of Apollo, the theater, the stadium, etc. Visit also the New museum of Delphi housing some masterpieces of the Classical sculpture such as the famous bronze statue of the Charioteer! Overnight in Delphi.
DAY 5
After breakfast depart for Meteora (about 3 hours and 30 minutes drive). Today we drive through the biggest plain of Greece, Thessaly, arrive in Kalambaka, up the narrow steep roads to reach Meteora, this incredible architectural complex of Monasteries built over seven hundred years ago. One of the highlights of our trip will be the visit of two Monasteries containing priceless historical and religious treasures. Meteora is a unique in beauty spot, this visit is worth the whole trip!!! Overnight in Kalambaka.
DAY 6
After breakfast drive by Trikala and Larissa to the famous, sacred Macedonian town of DION (visit – about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive). Then continue to Thessaloniki (1 hour and 30 minutes drive), the largest town in Northern Greece. Sightseeing of the city upon arrival with the visit of the most interesting Museum of Thessaloniki. Overnight.
DAY 7
Morning drive to Pella (45 minutes drive) to visit the capital of Macedonia and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. Continue to Vergina (one hour drive) to visit the tomb of King Phillip and the famous Vergina Treasures in the unique NEW Museum! Then off to Veria (30 minutes drive) for overnight.
DAY 8
Start the return drive to Athens (about 5 hours) through the Tempi valley, Larissa, Lamia, Thermopylae and Kamena Vourla. Stop for photos at the foot of the mountain Olympus where the Gods had their residence on the highest peak. Stop at Thermopylae to see the statue of Leonidas, the famous Spartan king, who fought the powerful Persian army in 480 BC. Overnight Athens.
